Volunteer Opportunities

There are many opportunities to serve the Lord and His community and congregation. When you find a service category that fits your interests and abilities let the Church Office know.  If you have any questions, please contact the office at 651-451-0309.

Altar Guild

The Altar Guild is made up of men, women and couples who serve the Lord and the church by caring for the altar and the ceremonial aspects of church services.  They keep the Chancel area in good order, prepare for Holy Communion, change banners and paraments, and clean Communion vessels, linen and acolyte robes.  Members serve on a regular schedule or may serve as substitutes.

Instructions for Altar Guild can be found here.

Lay Readers

Members of the Congregation read Scripture lessons from the lectern in worship services. These Lay Readers have a love for the Word and the desire to read and share in the worship duties.

Children’s Talk

A ‘Children’s Talk” is a regular part of the 10:30 AM worship services on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of each month. Lessons are shared with the children that support the Scripture lessons for the day. Anyone interested in giving a Children’s Talk should contact Concordia’s Education Coordinator.

Ushers prepare the worship space, seeing to the lighting, the hymn board and other facility needs for worship. They greet and direct worshipers, hand out bulletins, and gather the collection. Ushers are confirmed members, men and women who become part of a team headed by an Usher Captain and serve on a rotation basis. Contact the church office if interested in serving as an Usher or Usher Captain.

Greeters help people feel welcome at our church for each worship service, giving special attention to visitors by greeting them with a friendly smile and handshake sharing the love of Jesus. Contact the church office if interested in serving as a Greeter.

Prayer Chain & Prayer Ministry

Member of the Prayer Chain Group pray for those who make prayer requests. If desired, prayer requests are also listed in the Worship Bulletin and included in Worship Service prayers. Prayer requests can be made by contacting the church office

Meals on Wheels

Every four weeks, on Thursdays, Concordia volunteers deliver hot meals and warm smiles to elderly or disabled home bound people in our community. Meals are picked up at 11:00 AM and delivery is usually finished by noon. Contact the church office if interested in participating.

Food Shelf Coordination

Concordia works closely with Neighbors, Inc., a community assistance agency. A Food Barrel is located in the church hallway to collect items year round for Neighbors’ Food Shelves. Before Christmas, Concordia collects gifts for Neighbors for distribution. Contact the church office for more information.

Throughout the year there is a need for people to assist in decorating the church for special events on the church calendar such as Christmas and Holy Week. You will see notices in our weekly announcements for these events.  Contact the church office if interested.

Members make our church grounds and courtyard area bloom and keep the grounds and shrubbery trimmed and beautiful. Contact the church office and they will put you in touch with the appropriate Property Management leadership to get you started.

Building Maintenance

Members with handyman skills, including plumbing, electrical work, painting, carpentry and general repair keep our building in good working order. Contact the church office for more information.
